Nurse CV

Nurse Job Description

Nursing jobs require treating patients who are sick and injured, and also offering advice and emotional support to patients and their families, taking care of paperwork, helping doctors diagnose patients and providing advice and follow-up care.

Nursing is one of the hardest and most emotionally draining jobs out there, working as a nurse means having to deal with sick people, but there aren't many jobs out there were you can actually save someone's life. Many choose to work at nursing homes or with a home healthcare service.More than 60 percent of registered nurses work in hospitals.

Education requirements: The two most common ways to become a registered nurse are to get a bachelor of science degree in nursing (BSN) or an associate's degree in nursing (ADN). A BSN takes about four years to complete at a college or university. An ADN program at a community or junior college takes about two to three years. After finishing one of these programs you'll also have to pass an exam given by your local licensing board.

Career for nurses: Most nurses start out as staff nurses at a hospital. Once they master the art of reading a doctor's handwriting you could move on to a better shift or a shift management role. According to the US BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics), job opportunities for nurses are growing at a better than average pace. Job prospects will be the best for nurses who choose to work in doctors' offices. They also project that there will be solid opportunities available in nursing and assisted living homes, especially as the baby boomers age.

Work Experience

Registered Nurse
CNA Mid-del Technology Center
June 2012 to Present

Green Meadows Home Health
Tustin, CA
June 2002 to June 2012

Responsibilities

All aspects of the nursing process are a part of my daily responsibilities. Assessment of the patient physically lays the foundation for where they are when I accept them into my care. Planning helps me set goals to accomplish for that shift and long term for their recovery and I work daily with the interdisciplinary team and the physicians to develop a plan for each patient specifically. Implementation includes all the various things that keep them safe and meet their needs but it also includes time spent listening, encouraging and pointing out their successes as they work to heal and recover and then evaluating how well the plan worked and making recommendations to the oncoming shifts based upon the successes of the day. I work on a surgical step-down telemetry unit so we get our patient population from PACU, ICU, and the ED. We specialize in Gastric surgeries and get many cancer patients so we always deal with in management, and most often deal with nausea for various reasons. In addition, we are given any patient who requires telemetry monitoring and most of our patient population have chronic and multiple disease processes. Critical thinking is one of the largest parts of my job because I always have to ask myself, "Should this medication be given based upon the patient's condition, presentation or level of pain" and then I have to be present to monitor to see if my judgement was sound.

Accomplishments

I have progressed from a new graduate nurse who felt scared and unprepared, to a nurse who takes charge, but will still ask questions and seek out help when dealing with new situations. I have learned to trust my instincts and use my critical thinking skills to seek alternative methods when needed to meet the patients needs. I am a team member who is known to be one that you can count on when help is needed.

Skills Used

I have experience in dealing with NG tubes, Ostomy and Colostomy management, Foley catheter insertion maintainence and removal, JP and Accordian drain management and removal, Wound management and dressing changes, J/G tube management,Feeding pump systems, Chest tubes management, Central line management, removal and maintenance. I have experience in administering TPN, lipids, Blood products, Heparin drips to name a few of the infusions we do on our unit.
