Tips, Strategies and Rumors about Job Hunting

Tips, Strategies and Rumors about Job Hunting

Perhaps the worst stories of unemployment ignite an instant association with the Great Depression in the 1930s, following the 1929 stock market crash. Decades of economic policies and technological progress later, while recessions have never sunk that low again, finding a job may still be a challenging task, especially in certain situations, as when lacking qualifications or being in some other way less suitable for employment, for instance based on maladaptive personal character traits.

When it comes to writing CVs (CV – curriculum vitae) or resumes, and cover letters and attending interviews, advice remains abundant. Likewise, people tend to emphasize the importance of contacts and networking in pursuing a materially rewarding occupation. Still, opinions diverge on other topics as well. After all, even communication books differ: some will stress the “I” view, other idealize the “you” counterpart.

Staffing agencies are one alternative for individuals looking for work. Here again, opinions diverge. Also, recruiters and headhunters and related companies differ in their scope and specialization. Some specialize in banking, others in senior finance professionals only, and yet others in a variety of callings from registered nurse to administrative assistant and everything in between. Of course, talent and related show business and artistic talent scouts represent another twist on the story.
