Biologist CV

Authorized to work in the US for any employer

Work Experience

Biologist
Chambers Group Inc
February 2014 to Present

With this opportunity, I have worked on several different projects. I performed restoration monitoring where percent cover of non-native and native vegetation was documented for both annual and perennial species in the Angeles National Forest. Restoration sites were located under transmission lines and transmission towers and are subject to quarterly monitoring to determine restoration success. Success is determined from the cover measurements, and if the site meets the goals set by the client, the site is signed off and no longer needs monitoring. In addition, I have performed weed surveys for a fiber optic line installation in the Mojave Desert. While working on that project, I mapped all non-native weed populations (annual and perennial) and documented their percent cover of the total project area. This information will be utilized by the client to minimize the spread of invasive weeds. Moreover, I gained experience performing grunion run surveys where I looked for spawning grunion and documented male and female grunion.

Conservation Education Tour Guide
Chambers Group Inc
2014

With this opportunity, I worked as a student teacher for 3-12 grade students for the Conservation Through Education program, where students from low-income communities came out for a tour of the CSU San Bernardino conservation facilities and were given five separate talks. The five talks were about astronomy, paleontology, coastal sage scrub habitat, landscape patterns, and geology. I gave 22, 20 minute, talks about geology, where I covered information about the San Andres fault, springs, and Pelona Schist. In addition to these topics, I performed a Q&A session at the end of each of my talks and answered any questions students had about geology, and the other conservation topics they already learned about earlier in the day.

Biological Science Technician
Plants
2013 - 2014

I served as the GIS data manager for the Forest Wide Ecological Restoration program on the San Bernardino National Forest. With this opportunity, I frequently updated geodatabase information, created maps for staff, volunteers, NEPA projects, and grant reports. Additionally, I implemented restoration projects where excessive amounts of unauthorized use destroyed native habitats. I developed a seed collection geodatabse for tracking locations of native seed collections and georeferenced over 600 seed collections. I trained of four new seasonal biologists, the new Natural Resource Specialist for the Ecological Restoration program, and nine summer interns. Additionally, I frequently worked in the greenhouse performing native plant propagation, training, and management tasks.

Graduate Research Assistant
CSU San Bernardino
2012 to 2013

I researched the feasibility of chaparral restoration on type-converted slopes in Southern California. This project had several studies within it. I performed two lab/greenhouse based studies: a dose response experiment of smoke-water on Emmenanthe penduliflora, Bromus diandrus, Hordeum murinum, and Avena barbata; and seed bank manipulations on soil from the field site utilized for my research. In addition, I had a field-based portion where I tested the effect of herbicide on eliminating grass competition to promote shrub establishment. Moreover, I utilized GIS analysis to determine the fire frequency of the study site and adjacent lands; and determined the vegetation distribution using raster data.

Graduate Student Assistant
CSU San Bernardino
2011 - 2012

I worked as a graduate student assistant grading papers for the Geology class Natural Disasters, for two separate spring quarters

Biological Science Technician
Plants
2010 - 2011

I aided in the development and implementation of the Forest Wide Restoration Monitoring program on the San Bernardino National Forest. Furthermore, I assisted in the development of the GIS geodatabase for this monitoring program, ground-truthed over 1000 individual data points to confirm their accuracy. I trained and supervised four college interns in restoration practices, seed collection, fence building, plant propagation, and forest ecology. I played an integral role in the implementation of several restoration projects on the forest in various habitat types and managed the greenhouse for the 2011 Field Season.
