The cloned buffalo embryos produced by this method were transferred in surrogate mothers in an attempt to make live cattle by cloning.
Project Molecular Genetic Analysis.
This project dealt with the genotyping of Indian population for various loci/genes, which were shown to be associated with Parkinson's disease.
The first objective was identification and characterization of mutations in the 7 exons of alpha- synuclein (PARK-1) gene that has been identified as the probable cause for autosomal dominant Parkinsonism (ADPD).
The second objective was to study the association of the disease with the candidate genes likeTyrosine Hydroxylase (TH) and Dopamine receptors (DRD-1, DRD-2, DRD-3, DRD-4) and NAT-2 by mutation and SNP analysis in disease and control samples using PCR-RFLP based assays.

Ensenada, B.C.
2004 to 2011Database Design
Ten years of observations by Planetary Nebula (PN) group at IA-UNAM in Ensenada led to accumulation of high resolution, spectroscopic observations for over 600 PNe. All data are of scientific quality and presented in PDF format. Using MySQL, PHP and HTML, I created on-line catalog for general public to access data (http:// kincatpn.astrosen.unam.mx/).
Created MySQL database to store all file information for all data and store all characteristics and properties of each planetary nebula.
Wrote user interface using PHP. Main page is a search page, allowing user to search for planetary nebulae depending on their various characteristics and properties.
Designed feature to plot positions of planetary nebulae on sky using Flot Java library.
Added functionality to allow user to download text file of output search results.
Added functionality to display thumbnail images for each planetary nebula in search results.
Created page to display image for an individual planetary nebula and all available data for it.
Wrote edit page with only administration privileges allowing convenient way to add/modify specific information for individual planetary nebulae.
Wrote update page with only administration privileges, providing a convenient way to add new planetary nebulae to database in batches as well as modify any existing data.
Data Analyst Using Python
Wrote many scripts in Python to analyze astronomical data. Analysis led to further understanding of planetary nebulae and subsequent publication of results in scientific journals.
Analyzed astronomical data presented in form of a datacube, spatial dimensions in x and y and spectral dimension along z axis.
Extracted two-dimensional cuts at specific wavelengths in datacube to show nebula appearance.
Extracted two-dimensional cuts along spatial and spectral dimension. Cuts showed expansion of nebula to and from observer, giving information on its three-dimensional shape.
Wrote program to plot line profiles at different positions along spectral slit.
Wrote programs to lay out figures for publication in scientific journals.
Software Support
As a resident astronomer at San Pedro Mártir Observatory in Baja California, Mexico, I provided software support for visiting astronomers to help them carry out their telescopic observations.
Taught astronomers how to use programs to carry out telescopic observations. Programs included data acquisition and calibration program. I spent first two hours at beginning of night, instructing observers about programs. I stayed available for remainder of night should additional questions arise.
Resolved software problems during night when failures occurred. These problems included communication problems between observer's computer and instrument on telescope, errors in commanded exposures, errors in telescope control interface and errors in telescope guiding. All problems were resolved quickly, so astronomers could continue with their observing program.
Became expert user with Linux operating system since all computers at observatory use this OS.
Database Design
The San Pedro Martir observatory website did not contain a centralized list of available filters for astronomical instruments. Separate filter lists existed on individual instrument websites. Volunteered to create a centralized list of all astronomical filters. (http://www.astrossp.unam.mx/filters/filtros.php)
Created database of all available filters using MySQL and putting all information for each filter in a single table rather than on separate pages that were hard to search.
Developed PHP interface to display a sortable table depending on filter characteristic.
The interface made locating filters faster and easier for visiting astronomers resulting in less time spent in planning and setting up observations.
Maintenance Specialist
The RATIR robotic telescope team required an on-site person to help with initial tests and maintenance of telescope and instrument. As an experienced observatory staff member, volunteered to take on responsibility.
Participated in initial tests of robotic telescope during installation phase. Helped install Linux operating system on support computers. Helped observatory technical staff install new, rack-mounted computers.
Participated in installation of astronomical instrument on robotic telescope. Instrument consisted of two parts, one for observing infrared light and one for observing optical light. I visited NASA Goddard to learn about IR side of instrument and how to care for it.
Wrote ten page illustrated manual for installation / maintenance of instrument and robotic telescope, including cable diagrams for all connections, pictures of instrument and telescope, how to make vacuum and cooldown IR cryostat, and what to do in case of a power failure. Instructed observatory staff on maintenance procedures.
