The primary duties of a Patrol Support Officers (PSO) are to conduct investigations of non-violent crimes, write and file reports and conduct follow up investigation of these crimes, without contacting suspects. A PSO processes crime scenes, collects evidence, dusts for latent prints and photographs crime scenes. A PSO frequently deals with cases of identity theft and fraud, in these cases a PSO will advise the identity theft victim of the steps necessary to prevent further abuse of their identity and credit rating. Frequently a PSO will build the bulk of identity theft cases for detectives by contacting financial institutions and retail businesses to obtain video footage of fraudulent purchases using stolen credit cards. Of my own volition as a PSO I weekly research and publish a "hot list" of stolen vehicles for patrol officers and detectives. Additionally, on my own initiative I research local police records for people who are subject to arrest warrants, using online databases I conduct further research for known addresses, vehicles and associates of these people. I compile this information and pass it on to our agency officer assigned to the US Marshall's task force, the sergeant in charge of the department special operations group, and other sergeants who detail their squads to make arrests based on this information. They also assist with traffic control at motor vehicle collisions and help maintain perimeter at crime scenes.

A Campus Police Officer position (CPO I) is available in the University Police Department.

The University seeks an experienced officer to provide flexible, responsive, high quality community policing. Duties include but not limited to: patrol University buildings, grounds, and properties owned by the University. Enforce State Laws, University policies, rules, & regulations; investigates accidents and complaints; prepares concise and complete reports; handle confidential and sensitive information; ability to exercise clear quick thinking in emergencies and perform related work as required.

Ability to deal tactfully with others. Ability to interact with people who are under physical and or emotional distress. Ability to follow oral and written instructions, and be willing to work nights, weekends, and report for duty at any time when emergencies arise. Requirements and minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have completed High School, have a valid driver’s license, ability to obtain and maintain firearms license. Applicant must be eligible for appointment as a Special State Police Officer under Chapter 22C, Section 63 without additional training. The selected candidate may also be required successfully complete the Special State Police Basic Recruit Academy or M.P.T.C basic recruit academy to include basic recruit firearms training in order to remain in the position.

Preferred Qualifications: Graduates of the SSPO or Municipal Police Academy are preferred. Officers whose warrant applications are pending will be assigned duties that do not require Special State Police authority.
