Panda's Food

Panda's Food

Dangerous Diets: Cyanide is poisonous to humans and most animals. The giant panda’s and red panda’s favourite food is bamboo, which is laced this poison. How can these animals feast all day on bamboo without getting sick? Scientists believe their stomach enzymes can break down the poison, making the bamboo safe to eat. Humans have to boil bamboo thoroughly to release the cyanide before eating.

Here you can see a panda in the Toronto Zoo, picture taken by Elena.

This pile shows how much bamboo is offered to each animal every day – 42 to 64 kilograms.
Output – this is how much poop a panda produces in one day! Depending on how digestible the bamboo is, a panda can produce as much as 27 kg of feces each day.
