About the Ribsafari company: All Ribsafari members are islanders and have lived and worked in Westman islands (Vestmannaeyjar) all their lives. Since birth the have been going on trips on RIB boats and visited the islands all surrounding the main island Heimaey. We are extremely proud of our beautiful islands. Vestmnannaeyjar is a town and achipelago off the south coast of Iceland. The islands were formed by a submarine volcanic eruption and the largest island, and the only inhabited one, is Heimaey. The other islands are visited frequently by the locals for bird hunting and egg collection.

Vestmannaeyjar is a fishing village as rich fishing grounds surround the islands. The islands are inhabited by millions of birds and whales can often be seen around the islands. The islands are mostly known for their fishing legacy, beautiful nature, birdlife, volcanic eruption, Turkish invasion, perfect golf course and all sorts of summer feasts.

One Hour Small Islands Trip


This is the most popular tour | A 60 minutes sailing in Vestmannaeyjar on a RIB Speedboat.

During this trip you will sail by the small islands around Vestmannaeyjar, the elephant rock (the largest elephant head in the world), other unique rock formations, a lot of wildlife, nature and sea caves, among them Klettshellir, which is mostly known for its perfect acoustics and Kathellir in the islands Haena. You will get to know the history of Vestmannaeyjar. Go on the perfect trip to get both a thrill and great guidance.

A trip to remember as you will see “everything”

A two hour sailing in Vestmannaeyjar on a RIB speedboat. During this trip we will sail with you to the most popular islands in our archipelago. You will see the elephant rock, a lot of wildlife, nature, islands and sea caves. You will get to know the history of Vestmannaeyjar and see unique rock formations.

In good sea conditions we will even sail to Súlnasker, which is without a doubt the most magnificent island or skerry in Westman islands. The island’s cliffs rises up 60-70 meters and stands on four posts. If we are lucky we will also see some whales and seals.

Tailor Made Trips

Do you have a specific spot you want to see or have something unique in mind? You might want to go on a fishing trip, or photography, or bird watching trip.

With Special Tours Iceland we can offer you something unique or you come up with a special request which we of course try to fulfill.

What are Special Tours Iceland? Special tours can be e.g.

    If you want to go specially to an island such as Surtsey
    If you want to just focus on photographing puffins or other seabirds we can take you to that spot where you will just focus on the photographing
    Or even if you want to have a picnic at a romantic spot.
    You can than also decide at what time you want to sail. You can even rent our boats with captain and an assistant and the trip takes you wherever you want to go.

Group trips

Go on Iceland Group Trips with Ribsafari with your family, friends, co-workers, students and/or business partners. Or make the day perfect for the bachelor/ette.

We can offer you sailing around the Westman islands for groups adding water ski rides, doughnut dragging or parasailing.

During the trip we can offer you light dishes and drinks on board. Or you can have a picnic in a bay for some time but that is more or less a luxury trip.
FAQ for Ribsafari

It is best to book in advance via our website (you can contact us also via mail: info@ribsafari.is or tel. +354 661 1810), we only sail if we have put together a group of six people or more so we might need to cancel our trip or move you to a another trip.

We are situated just on the harbor in Vestmannaeyjar, 2 minutes walk away from where Herjólfur ferry lands

We usually cruise at 20-25 mph but normally end the trips a little bit faster.

Each boat takes 12 passengers and we operate two boats

We can custom-make trip for groups and individuals

We do not serve any refreshments on boards but we can provide you with custom-made “nip-nap” or luxury “wine and dine” trips.

The trips can be dependent on weather and if it is really windy we do not sail, and you wouldn’t want to sail either – but we will of course repay your trip or find another time in collaboration with you.
Safety and other issues

We provide every passenger with protective clothing; float suit and life jacket. We have equipment for children from up to one years old but on scheduled trips we recommend the children to be at least four years old but you can always book a private trip for your friends and family.

The float suit is warm however we recommend you to bring a hat and gloves. It is also best to wear sneakers or hiking shoes on the trip – we don’t recommend high heels or sandals.

Ribsafari ensures the safety and security of its passengers and we go through safety rules prior to every trip.

We do not sail with passengers who have back problems or are pregnant as the boat is riding on waves and it can be bouncy.

Alcohol and drugs and Ribsafari’s trips do not go hand in hand. Ribsafari can refuse to take people on trips that are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

I can wear your glasses during the trip however we will give you protective glasses to wear over them so that they will not fly off during the trip.

You have to declare that you are physically fit prior to engaging in a Ribsafari trip

We can keep your personal belongings at our office space however we do not take responsibility for them.
Safety equipment

Both of our boats have the following safety equipment: Rubber lifeboats: Big Eagle for 25 people and Giant for 16 people. Top of the art sailing equipment, fire extinguishers, emergency torches, distress flares, emergency radio and Emergency locator transmitters.

At the beginning of each trip Rigsafari’s employees always go through the safety issues with our passengers.

Employees of Ribsafari have the following licences:

    65 brl captain licence
    Marine engine drive licence for 750 kw
    ROC (Radiotelephone Operator’s Certificate)
    All employees have finished courses in maritime

Safety and emergency management and have years of experience as sailors and handling RHIB.
